about

This is a 26-minute mixdown of the audio-visual installation called "3-Blossom Automata", first shown in my solo exhibition "Tahigami Music" at the Cultural Center of the Philippines in 2017.

The music of 3-Blossom Automata is of the generative kind.

An excerpt from the exhibition notes:

The visitor comes upon three subtly delineated environments with intended sound spill in the case of the leftmost and central spaces. At the central space we find 3-Blossom Automata consisting of three non-networked machines creating sound “on the fly” as Arellano puts it, as their image-generating algorithms keep to the logic of producing abstracted floral forms but diverge on such tracks as the counter- or clockwise tracing of lines, movement within the interior or exterior contours, time signatures, as well as pauses. This qualified post-human autonomy between machines upon which visitors are unable to intervene unexpectedly demonstrates that harmony between non-human disconnections may be ‘programmed’ or staged more successfully than between their ego-driven fleshy counterparts.
